Doo Wop

Although I find my life enriched by many forms of music, 1950's Doo Wop is perhaps my chief mode of transcending the stifling confines of everyday existence. As improbable as this may sound, when I listen to doo wop music I feel myself transported to a beautiful world where joy is supreme. Almost all doo wop songs are about love and romance, and the way they speak of love is not only childish and innocent, but spiritual and poetic. In this art form earthly Eros is blended with heavenly Agape in a manner which is only possible with the divine foolishness of youth (consider such song titles as "Little Miracles", "Are You an Angel", "Creation", "Sinner in Love"). If you don't already think I'm crazy, you should know that I often pray while listening to this music. In fact, there would be no greater paradise for me than to have the whole universe transformed into a teenybopper love song!
