Brian's Doo-Wop

Brian's Doo Wop was doing just fine,
So long as he left it alone, which is usually the case,
Isn't it?
Perhaps I am presuming the inevitable fact
That cause and reason don't apply herewith.
Such are the foibles of men as we who are
Too gentle to live among wolves.
Later, if you wish, I can tell you the story of How,
The quintessential zero. But for now just grin and bear it
In the grandstand of life, like the rest of us.
I know how remarkable the finish will be seeing how loopy
The beginning must seem to an artificial person such as yourself.
But, wasn't Gertrude Stein right? In order to understand
The true meaning of things one must begin at the beginning,
And the beginning is Now. How true, indeed, brother.
What with the circus in town and all the acrobats, clowns,
And animal trainers running the government like a Rave, it is no wonder
The price of marketable objets d'arts is soaring while industrialists
Sit pondering the nation's navel in the crapper?
I ask you, Mr. and Mrs. America, how will we ever win the war
Unless we start the war? And how will we ever stop the war unless
We start another one? These are questions that keep the youth
Of this country mesmerized by the light of their computer toys.
Boy, it's no wonder the path at the grassy knoll is sketchy at best.
What with so many choices to choose form and no guru on the horizon
Worth labeling Functional. I just don't see the point of all this whoha.
We might as well be running through a dark tunnel at night,
Carrying a flashlight without batteries, looking for a black cat
That doesn't exist...
And there you may be right where I left you, under the coconut tree,
Blissfully smacked by the first cream pie thrown this season.
No, I am not talking treason.
I am lauding the hurdy-gurdy, the misfit poets, the assylum genius,
The tether-ball pros, and the likes of which we have not seen
For nigh in a k-k-k-koon's age
